ICCL Book Reading Session with Bukie’s Book Club – Blooming Lights College

On November 12th, 2025, ICCEF hosted another exciting book reading session led by Olubukola Agbalajobi-Odetayo, founder of Bukies Book Club, for the students of Blooming Lights College at the Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Library. The session centred on Foreign Gods, Inc.—a powerful and thought-provoking novel that immediately captured the students’ attention.

Instead of completing the full book, the students read only a few chapters. Then came the challenge:
Use your imagination and storytelling skills to create your own ending.

This approach encouraged Creative thinking, Confidence in self-expression it brought about a deeper connection to the themes and characters and allowed them the joy of discovering stories through their own lens’.

The room was full of excitement as students shared different interpretations, some dramatic, some hopeful, some unexpected and all showing how vividly they engaged with the story.

This wasn’t just about reading; it was about empowering young minds to think, imagine, and tell their own stories. The session helped the students to strengthen their storytelling skills, build communication and critical-thinking abilities and experience literature in an interactive, fun, and memorable way

Bukie guided the conversation beautifully, encouraging every student to speak and helping them explore the book’s big ideas with confidence.

At ICCEF, we believe in the power of books to spark curiosity, build empathy, and inspire leadership. This session reaffirmed how impactful reading can be when young people are given the space to imagine and create.

A special thank you to Ms Olubukola for facilitating such an engaging experience, and to Blooming Lights College for partnering with us. We look forward to hosting more sessions that nurture creativity, literacy, and a strong reading culture among Nigerian teenagers.
