ICCEF Teens Digital Storytelling Bootcamp with Oyewale Oyewole
On 18th August 2025, we kicked off our 3-day Teens Digital Storytelling Bootcamp at the Innocent Chukwuma Library. The aim of the program was to help young people understand the basics of storytelling using media and tech and give them space to try it out for themselves.
On the first day, participants were introduced to the basics: lighting, framing, and how camera angles can change the way a story is told. Many said it helped them see that even everyday situations could be turned into meaningful content. The second day focused on tools. They learned how to choose the right equipment for different types of content and got a walkthrough on how AI tools can help with video editing and writing prompts.
By the third day, they were ready to create. Each person edited and shared a short video they worked on themselves. Some were personal, others creative or fun, but all were original. At the end of the day, we handed out certificates to recognise the work they had put in.
The sessions were led by Mr. Oyewale Oyewole, a documentary filmmaker and CEO of Scripted Optics, who brought over 20 years of experience into the room. His sessions were supported by members of the ICCEF team, which helped keep the program practical and engaging.
One of the participants, Ireayo Akintunde, shared that, “The sessions were truly impactful. I came in with some prior knowledge, but I learned so much more and expanded my understanding. This was my first time attending a bootcamp like this, and I would recommend it to other young people during the holidays.” At ICCEF, we believe that when young people learn to tell their own stories, they gain the power to shape their futures. We’re glad to have hosted this session and look forward to seeing how these young people build on the skills they’ve started to learn.
