ICCEF Supports Oluaka Institute of Technology to build the capacity of 25 youths in Imo State on Frontend web development

Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation, (ICCEF) is fund Oluaka Institute of Technology (OIT) in Obinze Imo State to build the capacity of young people in frontend web development. The developers program organized by OIT was scheduled to have 2 cohort sessions of 12 weeks. The first cohort session commenced in May and the second cohort commenced in August 2023. The program ended in October 2023 building the capacity of 25 young people in the southeast.

This programmatic support from ICCEF to Oluaka falls within ICCEF’s program area “support youth innovation and technological startup”. This program area objective is to support organizations and institutions to build the capacity of young people to be innovative in setting up youth-led social enterprise in the technological ecosystem. Capacity building strategy is one way to support young people’s development for growth and increase their chances to be entrepreneurial and employable. In addition to the coding classes, the young developers also receive weekly mentorship from some of ICCEF’s mentors on various subject matters such as choosing career paths in tech, programme development and management; entrepreneurship, fundraising, networking, and client management etc.

The management of OIT expressed its gratitude to ICCEF for the support, which according to them was timely and improved the visibility of the institution through ICCEF’s continuous adverts and social media publication. They acknowledged that youth in the southeast are behind their counterpart in the southwest when it comes to coding and programming. The training of these youths with support from ICCEF he said, has multiplier effects as the trained youths will not only become entrepreneurial, they will also pass on the knowledge and skills acquired to their peers. He commended ICCEF for engaging mentors to motivate and encourage the youths during the training.

The Programme Manager ICCEF, Ms Enobong Ekwere on her part commended the management and staff of Oluaka Institute for keeping the dream of the Founder of the Institute, Mr. Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma alive two years after he passed. She described Oluaka as a major actor in the tech ecosystem in the southeast, contributing to raising the next generation of tech programmers. “We are excited that our partner Oluaka and ICCEF have one thing in common – preserving the impact and legacy of a great man Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma”.
