ICCEF Intra-School Book Reading and Essay Competition Commences

The Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF) is excited to announce the commencement of its Intra-School Book Reading and Essay Competition, a literacy initiative designed to inspire young minds through the power of storytelling, reflection, and expression.

The introductory reading sessions officially began on 9th February 2026 at Ojodu Junior Grammar School and Babs Fafunwa Millennium Senior Grammar School. Throughout the week, our team also visited Agidingbi Grammar School, Isolog Schools, and Distinction Schools of Excellence, engaging students across public and private institutions.

Students were introduced to Against All Odds, the powerful biography of Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma written by Obinna Ezugwu. During the sessions, students took turns reading sections of the book aloud, actively participating in public reading exercises that strengthened their confidence, improved their vocabulary, and sharpened their communication skills.

As they journeyed through the pages, students explored the rich history behind Innocent’s humble beginnings and the formative experiences that shaped him into a visionary leader and nation builder. Beyond reading, they engaged with valuable life lessons on resilience, courage, service, and integrity — qualities that defined his life and continue to inspire generations.

The reading sessions will continue in the coming weeks, with ICCEF visiting each participating school three times. At the end of the reading cycle, students will demonstrate their understanding and reflection by participating in an essay competition based on the book.

At ICCEF, we are proud to carry forward the story of a man who impacted not only those around him but Nigeria as a whole. Through this initiative, we are not only preserving his legacy — we are nurturing a new generation of confident, expressive, and thoughtful readers. Our hope is that as students raise their voices to read, they also raise their aspirations, discovering that they too can rise against all odds.
